Dr. Chuck F. Betters

Through careful study of the Bible, Dr. Charles F. Betters embraced the doctrines of the Reformed Faith early in his ministry. Chuck’s passion for building a spiritual legacy is reflected in his commitment to preaching through the Scriptures unapologetically. When the death of his sixteen-year-old son Mark confronted him with life’s hardest questions, he transparently tackled those hard doctrines and painful places of life. His messages, many found on this website, boldly encourage listeners that God is not afraid of their questions about the hard places in life. Out of the grief of his family, MARKINC Ministries was established as a means to offer help and hope to hurting people.

Heidi Nequist

Heidi is married to Greg, and together they have five children and one grandchild. Heidi and her family are the founders of Muddy Boots Horse Farm and Rescue in Warwick, Maryland, where they reside. Their mission is to help broken horses who will, in turn, help broken humans. Heidi is a Realtor, licensed in three states, and one of the team leaders for her business. Heidi grew up in the church, which led her to many different places where she used her faith to minister to all kinds of people. Loss, hurting people, grief, pain, anger, bitterness, and then hope and joy are the things that just made sense to Heidi because of the people she walked with through their pain, and also through her own. Working through the process of understanding that her relationship with Jesus was personal, and not because of a church building, took a long time, but has proven to continue to be that thing that brings internal joy, despite all other circumstances.

Sharon Betters

Sharon Betters experienced the power of biblical encouragement in a unique way when, as the mother of four young children, she battled Stage 3 breast cancer and even more so, after the death of her sixteen-year-old son, Mark. Sharon shares many of these treasures of encouragement through her books, Treasures of Encouragement (written after her son's death), Treasures of Faith (co-authored with husband, Chuck) and Treasures in Darkness, A Grieving Mother Shares Her Heart. Along with her writing, Sharon pours her passion to help others in her work for MARKINC Ministries, a non-profit she leads with her husband, Chuck. Sharon started teaching women’s Bible studies in 1969 and has served on the women’s ministry team in every church her husband, Chuck, has pastored. Now she offers help and hope to others by not only writing but helping produce resources that tell redemption stories that help hurting people find purpose and joy in their life journeys.

MARKINC Ministries

MARKINC desires to come alongside others, who are hurting, to offer help and hope. While the roots of this ministry were started in a painful, broken place, there has been tremendous beauty that has resulted in the help and hope that has been shared with millions of people around the world.

Beauty from Brokenness: Chuck and Sharon Betters’ lives were shattered when they learned that their 16-year-old son, Mark, and his friend Kelly had died in a tragic car accident. Overwhelmed with grief, they found solace in knowing God held them tightly. Support from others reminded them of God's sovereignty and trustworthiness.

In response to their loss, they founded MARKINC, which stands for "Making Abundant Riches Known In the Name of Christ," in honor of Mark. This non-profit aims to assist others who are grieving, just as they were supported during their darkest days. What began in pain has blossomed into a ministry that offers hope and healing to millions around the world.
